High Priced Certified Copies

    I recently closed on a new home, and so far have received THREE offers to sell me a certified copy of "the only evidence of home ownership I will receive" -- my deed.   These generous offers were each designed to look like some form of official government notice and showed prices from $80 to $87. 

    Having already received a copy of my deed at closing, and knowing where I can get a certified copy for a couple of bucks, I declined this generous offer.   But judging by the number of offers I received, apparently a significant number of people are falling for this.

    Insane!  I hope we have better communication with our buyers/borrowers during the closing process to educate them against these types of scams.
